Hollywood Studio of Dance (HSD) was founded in 1991 by Diane Elliott Robinson who has been a dance teacher and choreographer for over 40 years.

HSD is a 501© (3), art-based, nonprofit organization located in the heart of north Minneapolis, right on the corner of West Broadway and Penn Avenue.  HSD has had the privilege of providing economically disadvantaged youth and their families with the opportunity to participate in performing arts activities. The large viewing windows in the front of the building prominently display local and national performance trophies as a constant reminder of the success achieved by the dancers of HSD.

HSD was founded on the belief that an opportunity to dance can positively impact a young person’s life, building character and a strong network creating an encouraging support system away from home. HSD’s presence has created a constructive gathering place for youth development, multi-cultural enrichment, family, educational enhancement, and community. Entering our 32nd year of operation, HSD has firmly established itself as one the leading arts service organizations in the community.

Mission and Goals

The mission of HSD is to provide professional dance instruction in a positive, creative, and supportive environment within the inner city; providing at-risk youth and families with affordable professional dance training while emphasizing the importance of cultural pride, artistic growth and commitment to one’s self and community.

 Our core values include:

  • Using dance as a tool to engage youth in positive self-expression.

  • Empowering young people to work within a group while growing as individuals

  • Engaging our community by providing performances and outreach experiences that enhance pride, joy and creativity.
